Does that mean that if you killed someone, you can hide or burn every piece of evidence? You could have every motive possible, and you could be the last suspect standing, but there’s still no evidence that YOU did it. That’s like saying you wanna convict a bird of killing a worm, but then the bird already ate it.

Verdict and Charges

  When that woman read the charges, I was 1000% sure that she was going to read “guilty”. I was shocked. She was acquitted of first-degree murder. I was suddenly outraged when she was acquitted of two more charges: aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter. Lastly, it was totally obvious that she was going to be charged for 4 counts of holding back information from a law enforcement officer.

Yet, I was still shocked.

Defense’s Claim

I don’t know why the jury chose “not guilty” for first-degree murder. Was it because of the doubt and lack of evidence? Did they think about the motive and testimonies? I thought the defense’s argument was ridiculous: Caylee Anthony drowned in the pool by accident. George Anthony helped cover it up to look like a murder by dumping the body in the swamp. Like Jeff Ashton said, “People don’t make accidents look like murder. That’s absurd!” George Anthony even denied that when he took the stand. Did the jury vote based on the defense’s claim too? By the way, who puts duct tape on a dead body after an accident and waits 31 days to call the police? You should call the police IMMEDIATELY, especially if a child had been killed.

My Opinion

My opinion was that Casey Anthony should have been convicted from the moment I saw her. She should have been sentenced to death for first-degree murder; she took a life away, and now it’s her turn to give her life away. I thought that Jeff Ashton and Linda Drane-Burdick had really strong arguments compared to the defense.

The Prosecution showed Casey’s..

• Motive. (Caylee was turning 3; she was developing her sense of speaking; she wouldn’t be smart enough to lie about “Zanny the Nanny” and Universal Studios. That’s one of the main reasons why Casey had to silence her.)
• Lies. (I love the fact how Burdick said that the imaginary friends weren’t just imaginary friends - they were lies.)
• Access to all of the evidence from the crime scene.
• Phone calls.
• Photos (including the party pictures that were taken when investigators were searching for Caylee).
• Myspace/Facebook password (timer55 - She had 55 days at most to stall her mother from seeing Caylee; there were only 55 more days until Caylee’s third birthday.)

They even said that Caylee’s grandparents were the ones who were taking care of her, not Casey. I loved how they even proved to the defense that George Anthony was in pain. Better yet, he would NEVER murder his own daughter because he “literally loved her more than life itself.” 

The Defense, however..

• Accused a handful of witnesses of lying.
• Blamed the murder of Caylee Anthony on George Anthony.
• Belittled the prosecution’s arguments.
• Gave confusing closing statements.
• Showed unnecessary charts (e.g. “Casey’s Imaginary Friends”, the searches for chloroform/myspace, etc.)
• Objected numerous times to the prosecution’s rebuttal (Only about 2 or 3 were sustained.)
• (And so much more.)

Casey’s Motive

You could tell she wasn’t a responsible mother. George and Cindy Anthony constantly took care of Caylee: feeding her, buying her toys and clothes, and most importantly, loving her. Casey didn’t want to take care of her because she was a party girl; she constantly went to clubs and parties with her boyfriend Tony. That’s the way Casey wanted to live: go to parties and clubs, and have fun. However, there was only one problem standing in front of her from living the way she wanted to live, and that was Caylee Anthony. Once Caylee had died (for reasons unknown), Casey dumped her body in a swamp, and this led to a big web of lies (her fake job, fake friends, and fake locations).

Conclusion

Will we ever know why the jury chose “not guilty” instead of “guilty”? Maybe it was because of insufficient data of how Caylee Anthony died, or the lack of strong evidence; but to me, it doesn’t matter HOW she was killed, as long as you know WHO wanted to kill this sweet 2-year-old girl and WHY. In fact, if Casey really was innocent, then wouldn’t she want to find out who could’ve killed her? After all, her own daughter’s life was taken, and that should kill a mother on the inside, because their children should mean more to them than their own lives. Most people mainly focused on Casey, but she is not the victim here. The victim is Caylee Marie Anthony, and we should have given her justice. Was justice really given? In my opinion, 4 years of jail time will never be enough justice for an innocent child who was killed by her own mother.

Jose Baez, the defense attorney, said he saved a life.

Did you really save a life? Casey is completely detached from the real world. She doesn’t care anymore. All she wanted to do was fool around and not be responsible. Is saving someone’s life (someone so emotionless about anyone but herself, someone who has thrown about everyone under the bus, and most importantly, someone who even took a life of another human being) even worth it?
